I’ve found my all-time favorite portable hunting heater! The Mr. Heater Little Buddy Portable Propane Heater is easy-to-use and works great. I’ve never had any issues with mine, it feels well built and is rated at 3,800 BTU. If I need an additional hunting heater in the future, I’ll definitely stick with the Mr. Heater Little Buddy. At around $60 on Amazon, these heaters are fairly inexpensive and feel nice and solid.

Plenty of Heat for a Small Hunting Blind

In recent years, I’ve began to really enjoy hunting. I’m based in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, and deer season can get pretty chilly. I have some health issues that affect my mobility, so this past year I decided to break down and get a hunting blind heater. I’ve used various types of portable propane heaters, and they all have their pros and cons. The problem I found with many of the larger heaters was that they ended up being overkill for a standard hunting blind. Not only that, but the larger the propane heater, the greater chance you have of creating unwanted noise. I’ve found this heater to be the perfect size for hunting while remaining nice and quiet.

When I was hunting last year, I tried out a buddies’ Mr. Heater Buddy Heater in a 6′ cube box-blind. It kept me plenty warm, but I had to constantly shut it off and let the hunting blind cool down. I’d recommend it for a much larger / more open blind, but if you’re fully enclosed it might be too much. The Buddy Heater does allow you to connect to a larger propane tank which may be beneficial depending on your scenario. Both heaters are definitely built to last, and Mr. Heater stands behind their products with their manufacturer’s warranty.

Heater Basics

The Little Buddy Propane Heater uses standard 1lb propane tanks and has a built-in ignition system. It does employ a tip-over safety switch which will turn the propane off in the event that it’s knocked over.
